Preventive Dentistry
We practice preventive dentistry, a modern approach that is all about nipping dental problems in the bud or stopping them from occurring in the first place. This kind of dentistry helps to reduce the extent of treatment needed to maintain a healthy, happy mouth.
We take a proactive approach with all our patients, young and old, and work with them to help prevent the gum disease and decay that can lead to tooth loss.
Our preventive recommendations:
- Attend regular check-ups so our dentists can keep a close eye on your dental health and check for more serious issues such as mouth cancer.
- Brush teeth at least twice a day and clean between teeth with flossing or interdental brushes. Mouthwashes can help keep your mouth fresh and bacteria free too.
- Go easy on sugary snacks and if you do indulge, eat them after a meal so your mouth acids have chance to neutralise.
- Don’t be too eager to brush after acidic food and drink as it can soften the enamel – wait half an hour before doing so.
- Start educating your children about oral health as early as possible, encouraging them to brush regularly and avoid fizzy drinks and sweets. Also if they have regular appointments from a young age they will be much more comfortable about visiting the dentist.
