Tongue Cleaning
The tongue is a haven for all kinds of bacteria that can contribute to tooth decay, gum infections, bad breath and a reduced sense of taste. Cleaning your tongue, as well as your teeth, can help to avoid all these problems, as well as restoring its pretty pink colour.
Top tongue cleaning tips:
- Use a small dab of toothpaste on your toothbrush or you can use a tongue cleaner, which can be found on the flip side of certain toothbrushes.
- Start at the back of your extended tongue and work forward, gently brushing the entire top surface and finish by rinsing with water.
- For a more thorough clean, use a tongue scraper, which removes the offending layer of debris from your tongue. Rinse it with warm water after each scrape and don’t press too hard as it could make your tongue sore.
- Give your tongue a good clean whenever you brush and combine with flossing and mouthwash for extra freshness.
- When cleaning your tongue keep an eye on any changes and let us know if you experience any of the following:
- A tongue coating lasting longer than two weeks.
- Persistent tongue pain
